inspiration: Edward Gorey (1925 - 2000)

So, on 7/6/09 I stumbled across a children's book author who illustrates some rather dreary books about learning the ABC's.................
Edward Gorey liked cats... typical of weirdos!
(haha.. we all know I am obsessed
I would love to get my hands on one of his books. His works are called the Ghastlycrumb Tinies
Here are some of my favorites:
Isn't there something painstakingly interesting about someone as mysterious and dark as he is?
here is a view of his desk.
love, polly

I love dark children's books. It's just so unexpected. In retrospect, some of Shel Silverstein's works were quite dark, and I adored them.

And, as you might imagine, I'm in total agreement with you about the name Maud/Maude- love it!

I'm assuming Jake's your bf?

I love you even more now that you've posted about Edward Gorey (a personal fav of mine!!!). Gashly Crumb Tinies is SO. GOOD!! Some museum was having an exhibit of his work a long time ago and I got a shirt with that illustration on it! Loves it.

These are brilliant! I find them really funny in a macabre kind of way.
As for films, hmm... I like all Tarantino's stuff and there's a few british films I love which you may not have heard of like Heartless, Withnail and I, and The Brothers Grimm. I have a bit of a weird thing for Zombie films as well - 28 days later.
Romeo + Juliet, An Education, Rear Window... the list goes on forever :)

Scary, but cool for sure. I like weirdos! Where would the world be without them?

Best wishes from one blogger to another,

Very dark! I watched Harold and Maude not too long ago and found it funny in the strangest way.

Hey! Thanks for following my blog, and for your comment.
I've started following you too. I haven't had a chance to read your blog yet, but I'm sooooooo liking the look of it so far! I love eclectic blogs with loads of random stuff to see and read!
Really looking forward to coming back when I have more time for a proper delve!
:) xxx

She probably means the same one but that's definitely how you spell it, it's an odd title but it's because the main character's surname is Withnail. You should definitely give it a watch if you get the opportunity it's really funny. It has some genius swearing in it as well :)

Those are quite cool; although I wouldn't actually want a child to read them!

Okay, so I totally came up with THE LONGEST MOVIE REC LIST EVER... but then it seemed too much. I was able to pair it down a little:

1)Away we go
2)Medicine for Melancholy
3)Me, you, and everyone we know
5)Girl Interrupted

If you see any of them and like 'em, let me know, there are plenty more where that came from! lol.

Any recs for me?

I LOVE his desk! I'm fascinated by desks. They're like a microcosm of a person's thought processes and mind.
